This Week in National Press Club History

Oct. 17, 1929: The National Press Building goes into receivership.

Oct. 17, 1956: The newly appointed French Ambassador Herve Alphand chooses the National Press Club for his first public appearance in the United States and defends his country’s position on growing Suez Canal tensions.

This Week in National Press Club History is brought to you by the History Committee, which is dedicated to preserving, and revitalizing the Club’s history through displays, panel discussions and lectures, as well as interviewing members as part of the Club’s long-standing oral history project.

The History Commit tee meets at noon on the last Tuesday of the month. Its next meeting is Oct. 27. For more information on History Committee-sponsored events or to join the History Committee, contact Marc Wojno at [email protected].
