This Week in National Press Club History

Nov. 26, 2012: The Club honors Nelson Mandela with a program, Life, Legacy and Values of Nelson Mandela, in conjunction with the South African Embassy. Mandela spoke twice at the Club, first in 1991 as president of the African National Congress, 22 months after his release from prison, and then in 1994, as president of South Africa.

Nov. 28, 2000: Phyllis Reynolds Naylor, winner of the Newberry Award, given to the most distinguished American children’s book of the previous year, signs copies at the Club’s annual book fair.

This Week In National Press Club History is brought to you by the History and Heritage Committee, which preserves and revitalizes the Club’s century-plus history with lobby displays, events, panel discussions, and an extensive ongoing oral history project.
