Selnick, who is also senior vice president of strategic markets at BusinessWire, will show how the press release has changed over the years. He will also discuss why it is still an important tool for notifying the news media of significant events and announcements.

“Despite reports of its demise the press release is still very much alive and relevant,” Selnick says. “According to BusinessWire’s research, almost 90 percent of journalists said that they had referenced a release in the previous week, with 62 percent having used one in the last 24 hours.”

In addition to getting the attention of reporters, editors and producers, press releases can be posted on social media to directly engage readers, Selnick says.

The Communicators Breakfast series is hosted by the Club's Communications and Marketing Committee.
