Snakeheads are members of the freshwater perciform fish family Channidae, native to parts of Africa and Asia. These elongated, predatory fish are distinguished by long dorsal fins, large mouths, sharp teeth and mottled sides resembling snakeskin. They eat fish, frogs, crustaceans, small birds, mammals and/or reptiles. There are no known predators in the Chesapeake watershed. But the fish are also delicious with firm white flesh which can be marinated, sautéed, grilled or steamed.
