Washington premiere of new documentary on toxic masculinity, Friday March 6

The Washington, D.C. premiere of the new documentary, “The Mask You Live In,” followed by a Q&A with the film’s director will take place Friday, March 6 at 6:30 p.m. in the National Press Club's Holeman Lounge.

The event is sponsored by the Young Members Committee and is open to the public. Tickets are $5 for club members and $10 for non-members. Purchase tickets online.

“The Mask You Live In” examines the harm caused to boys and men by American culture and the media’s narrow definition of masculinity, and what it means to “Be a Man.” Watch the film's trailer.

The documentary premiered earlier this winter at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival. The film is directed by Jennifer Siebel Newsom, who helmed the provocative 2011 documentary, “Miss Representation,” focusing on the societal harm caused by sexualized and infantilized images of women in the media.

Directly following the screening, there will be a moderated panel discussion and audience Q&A.

Confirmed panelists include:
Jennifer Siebel Newsom, founder of The Representation Project and director of “The Mask You Live In” and “Miss Representation”
Isaac Fitzgerald, editor at BuzzFeed Books
Alyssa Rosenberg, Act Four columnist for the Washington Post
Jamelle Bouie, politics, policy, and race staff writer for Slate

The event moderator is:
Lacy Crawford, NPC Young Member and communications director for Social Security Works
