Walczak Award seeks best political writing, analysis; deadline April 1

With campaign season in full bloom, the National Press Club will recognize the best of political journalism.

The Lee Walczak Award for Political Analysis recognizes the best in political writing, with an emphasis on the best analysis. This award is named in memory of Lee Walczak, a Washington editor, bureau chief and White House correspondent who worked for Bloomberg News and Business Week. Dan Balz of The Washington Post took top honors last year.

The competition has an online/print category and a prize of $750.

The deadline for entering the contest is April 1, so pick your entries and mail them soon.

The journalism contest also includes awards for breaking news, online reporting, regional reporting on Washington, international coverage, consumer reporting and newsletter journalism. It also includes a group of awards for areas as diverse as the news industry, aerospace and the airline industry, problems facing the elderly and humor writing.
