Varmus to discuss impediments to cancer research at 10 a.m. Sept. 25

Nobel Laureate Dr. Harold Varmus, director of the National Institutes of Health’s National Cancer Institute, will discuss the barriers that impede the nation’s ability to make faster progress against cancer during a National Press Club Newsmaker that begins at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25.

Varmus is also prepared to discuss national budget issues such as “sequestration” and the lack of focus on health research in the 2012 presidential campaign.
