There's no debate: Celebrate with former NPC President John Cosgrove

Former Club President John Cosgrove, a member for more than six decades, is holding his “Can’t Wait to be 100” party the same night as the first presidential debate.

The event will take place in the ballroom at 5:30 p.m., Monday, Sept, 26, just hours before Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump square off in the first of three debates. Attendees can then watch the debates at the Club right after Cosgrove's bash.

Cosgrove has been an active member of the Club since the 1940s. When he was sworn in as Club president in January 1961, President John Kennedy dropped by to pay his respects. As Cosgrove loves to say: “I went to Kennedy’s inaugural, why shouldn’t he come to mine?”

He helped put together the history of the Club for its 50th anniversary, and came back 50 years later to help write the centennial history in 2008.

His 100th birthday celebration will be two years early. Tickets are $50 and the event is going to be a fundraiser for the Club's Journalism Institute.

There will be an open bar, appetizers and entertainment. Details are still in the planning stages.

By the way, Cosgrove was around during the 1920 presidential election that pitted two Ohio newspaper publishers, Warren Harding and James Cox.
