Spring Hoot to feature Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist Tom Toles and the Suspicious Package Band, May 1

Tom Toles, award winning editorial cartoonist for The Washington Post and a spirited musician will display both of his talents at the Silver Owls Spring Hoot on Friday, May 1, at the National Press Club.

As a musician, Toles plays drums and sings both lead and harmony with his five-member band known as "Suspicious Package." As an editorial cartoonist, Toles won a Pulitizer Prize in 1990 and since joining the Post in 2002, he has been named Cartoonist of the Year by Editor and Publisher in 2002, by the National Cartoonists Society in 2003, and by The Week Magazine in 2005. He also received The National Headliners Award in 2005 and the coveted Herblock Prize in 2011.

In addition to leading his band at the Hoot, Toles will talk about his day job, including how he develops an idea for a cartoon and then translates that concept into a drawing that dramatically captures an event or expresses an emotion.

The Hoot, which is open to all NPC members and guests, begins with a 6:30 PM cash bar cocktail party, followed by a 7:30 sit down dinner. The cost is $35 per person.
