Sexual assault panel 1 p.m. on Friday

Bill Cosby's arrest on Dec. 30 guarantees that sexual assault will continue to be in the headlines this year. To prepare for the journalistic challenges ahead, an expert National Press Club panel will discuss covering sexual assault. The event will take place in the Zenger Room on Friday, Jan. 8th from 1 p.m.-2:30 p.m.

Tickets are required and can be purchased here. The price for NPC members including service charge is $6.24; non-members pay $11.29.

Panelists will include: Liz Securro, who was brutally raped in 1984, and was not able to hold her attacker accountable until he wrote her a letter apologizing for what he had done -- 20 years later; journalist Kristen Lombardi, Center for Public Integrity, the author of an award-winning investigation of sexual assaults on campus; Bruce Shapiro, executive director of the Dart Center at Columbia University School of Journalism, which offers guidance and training to journalists covering trauma; and Jennifer Marsh, Vice President for Victim Services at RAINN -- the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network -- the nation’s largest anti-sexual assault organization.

The panel discussion will be moderated by Celia Wexler, of the club's professional development committee.
