Send in your entry soon: NPC to honor best international coverage

The National Press Club wants to see the best coverage from 2014 of news from around the world.

Past winners of the Edwin M. Hood Award for Diplomatic Correspondence have covered policy failures in Syria, uncovered corruption and mismanagement in the Afghanistan rebuilding efforts; traced the trail of high-powered guns smuggled from the United States into Mexico; and exposed the Obama administration’s foreign policy battles during the Arab Spring. The winners will be honored at a Press Club dinner this summer.

Named for a distinguished diplomatic correspondent for The Associated Press and a founding member of the National Press Club, the Edwin M. Hood Award recognizes excellence in reporting on diplomatic and foreign policy issues. Entrants must demonstrate an understanding of American foreign policy and how international affairs affect those policies.

The competition for best work is in both print/online or broadcast categories. Entries should consist of a single article or series of articles or broadcasts (no more than five) that will be judged in its entirety. Please also include a letter explaining how the entry provided a new perspective on American foreign policy or broke fresh ground in coverage of international affairs.

The deadline to submit entries is April 1 and the contest is open to Press Club members and non-members. Offering diplomatic news entries is free for NPC members and $50 for nonmembers. The award is $750 for each category.

Entries may be submitted online or by the more traditional use of mail. For more information or to apply, click here.
