Sen. Charles Schumer to discuss the 2016 path forward for Democrats

New York Sen. Charles Schumer, the third ranking Democrat in the Senate, will diagnose what went wrong for Democrats in the 2014 election and what they must do to be successful in 2016 and beyond at a Club Newsmaker at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 25, in the Zenger Room.

Schumer is a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee and chair of the Immigration subcommittee, which will oversee President Barack Obama’s recent executive order. He also Chairs the Senate Rules Committee and is a member of the Senate Finance and Banking committees.

After winning re-election in 2004, he chaired the Democratic Senate Campaign Committee from 2005-08, a time that saw the Democrats not only regain control of a Senate but for a while built a 60-vote majority to overcome Republican-led filibusters. After the 2006 election, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid appointed Schumer as vice chair of the Democratic caucus, the No. 3 position on the Democratic leadership team and a position he continues to hold.

After New Yorkers re-elected him for a third term in 2010, he took on an expanded role in the Senate as chairman of the Democratic Policy and Communications Center.

Like all Newsmakers, this event is open free of charge to credentialed journalists and Club members. No advance registration is required.
