See the Future: Get Demo of Google Glass at Communicators Breakfast Wednesday, Feb. 12

Back in the 1980s, the band Timbuk3 released the hit song "The Future's So Bright, I Gotta Wear Shades." But if that one-hit wonder band were around today, its musicians likely would be singing about how their wearable computer, Google Glass, is helping them see what lies ahead.

At the next Communicators Breakfast on Wednesday, Feb. 12, at 8 a.m. in the Truman Lounge, National Press Club member Thomas Sanchez will demonstrate his new pair of Google Glass and discuss how the wearable computer, which was recently introduced by the giant technology firm, has the power to shape the future.

Admission to the breakfast is free for Club members and $10 for their guests. Click here to register.

To the naked eye, Glass appears to be an ordinary pair of eyeglasses or sunglasses, but it has computing power and functions similar to a smartphone. With the lenses acting as tiny computer displays, users can check email and calendars, search the Web, listen to music and even make video calls.

Currently, Glass is available by invitation only to IT developers, such as Sanchez, who want to get involved early in the development of the device. He and his team at Social Driver, a Washington-based marketing communications firm, are experimenting with Glass to determine how it can help build innovative social technology solutions that connect clients to the digital future.

After the demo, a photographer will be available to take portraits of breakfast-goers trying on Google Glass for themselves, looking brightly into the future.
