PBS film segment, "Clinton," panel discussion on tap Jan. 12

Mark Samels, executive producer of PBS’s "American Experience," and Emmy and Peabody award-winning filmmaker Barak Goodman ("My Lai") will join Pulitzer Prize winning Washington Post reporter David Maraniss for a 30-minute sneak preview of the upcoming "American Experience" presentation, "Clinton" on Thursday, Jan. 12 at 6:30 p.m..

The presentation, a four-hour, two-part, in-depth look at the Clinton presidency will air nationally on PBS on Feb. 21-22.

The National Press Club's presentation of the film segment begins at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 12. A one-hour panel discussion featuring Samels, Goodman, Maraniss and others follows at 7 p.m.

In "Clinton," the latest installment in the collection of presidential biographies, "American Experience" explores the story of an American president who rose from a turbulent childhood in Arkansas.

The film recounts a career of accomplishment and scandal, a marriage that would make history and create controversy, and a presidency that would define the crucial and transformative period between the fall of the Berlin Wall and 9/11.

It follows Clinton across his two terms as he confronted partisan political warfare and domestic and international terrorism, and struggled, with uneven success, to define the role of American power in a post-Cold War world. It explores how Clinton made history, even as he enraged his enemies and confounded his friends.

This event is free to members of the National Press Club and $5 for all guests of members or non-members who wish to attend.
