The Onion's Baratunde Thurston, author and comedian, introduces book Feb. 13

Baratunde Thurston, of Jack and Jill Politics and The Onion, will discuss his new satirical book, “How to Be Black,” as part of the NPC Book & Author series on February 13, 6:30 p.m, in the Conference Rooms.

Thurston shares his 30-plus years of expertise in being black, with helpful essays like “How to Be the Black Friend,” “How to Speak for All Black People,” “How To Celebrate Black History Month,” and more, in his humorous guide to race issues. The book also critiques the media's portrayal of blackness as one-dimensional.

Reservations are required and may be made at [email protected] or by calling 202-662-7523. The event is free for Club members, $5 for all non-members.

Baratunde Thurston is director of digital at The Onion, the co-founder of Jack & Jill Politics, a stand-up comedian and speaker. He was named one of the 100 most influential African-Americans of 2011 by The Root and one of the 100 most creative people in business by Fast Company magazine.
