Nuclear Regulatory Commission Chair plans Press Club Luncheon speech, Nov. 17

Allison Macfarlane, chairman of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, plans to speak about assuring the continued safe operation of the nation’s more than 100 nuclear power plants at a National Press Club Luncheon on Monday, Nov. 17.

Lunch will be served at 12:30 p.m., with remarks beginning at 1 p.m., followed by a question-and-answer session ending at 2 p.m.

Macfarlane, chairman of the commission since July 2012, also plans to address the orderly shut down of plants being closed for economic reasons, and the safe and secure management of radioactive waste. She plans to touch on the importance of maintaining the momentum of post-Fukushima safety enhancements and positioning the agency to meet the challenges of a nuclear landscape affected by external-policy factors.
