NPC Newsmaker on March 4 on how humanoid robots can help children with autism

Dr. Pamela Rollins, a leading expert on autism intervention programs, will address a NPC Newsmakers news conference on Wednesday, March 4 at 10 a.m. in the Bloomberg Room.

Unveiling the results of her current research about humanoid robots, she will discuss how they will forever change the way educators, therapists and parents work with children on the autism spectrum.

To showcase how her research will advance this new autism therapy solution, Dr. Rollins will demonstrate Milo the Robot, developed solely for autism intervention. Milo’s lifelike facial expressions teach students social cues, and his non-passive nature initiates learning and educational games to keep students engaged throughout their lessons. Robots such as Milo have been shown to ease social anxiety in students with ASD, help them identify emotions and enhance the development of their social and emotional skills.

Dr. Rollins teaches graduate-level courses on the assessment and treatment of children and ASD at the Callier Center for Communication Disorders at the University of Texas at Dallas.

Like all Newsmaker events, this news conference is open to credentialed press and NPC club members, free of charge. No advance registration is required.
