NPC member Raasch plans Rap about Gettysburg aftermath, Thursday, Oct. 20

Chuck Raasch plans to discuss his new book Imperfect Union: A Father's Search for His Son in the Aftermath of the Battle of Gettysburg, at a National Press Club Book Rap at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 20 in the NPC’s Conference Room.

Tickets are $5 for Press Club members; $10 public. This event is a fundraiser for the nonprofit NPC Journalism Institute. Tickets can be purchased online by clicking here. Books can be purchased online at the same time as tickets or at the event. No outside books or memorabilia are permitted.

Raasch is the chief Washington correspondent for the St. Louis Post Dispatch. He was one of the five original long-form writers for USA Today when it began in 1982 and a national correspondent for Gannett News Service for 25 years. A graduate of South Dakota State University, he completed a journalism fellowship at Stanford and is a member of the National Press Club and the Gridiron Club. He lives in Alexandria, Virginia.

Imperfect Union: A Father's Search for His Son in the Aftermath of the Battle of Gettysburg, tells the story of a father, Sam Wilkeson, a New York Times correspondent, and his son, Bayard Wilkeson, who fell on the first day of the Battle of Gettysburg. Sam was already on his way to Gettysburg when the battle started but he had to wait until the battle ended to search for his son. The book looks at the aftermath of the battle, medical treatment at the time and the story Sam Wilkeson wrote.
