North Coast micro brews with dinner at NPC's Fourth Estate, Sept. 12

National Press Club members and their friends are invited to experience the California micro-brewery explosion on Thursday, Sept. 12, in the Fourth Estate.

Try craft beers produced by North Coast Brewing Company paired with a five course dinner. North Coast was founded in 1988, making it one of the oldest micro-breweries in the country.

Six beers will be poured:
Scrimshaw Pilsner with hors d’oeuvres including barbeque pork sliders and cheese gougères; Blue Star Wheat Beer with a cilantro mushroom and arugula salad; and PranQster Belgian Golden Ale with ceviche and avocado. North Coast’s ode to a blackbird, La Merle Farmhouse Ale, will accompany locally made lemon and lavender sorbet; and the main course of duck breast & plum sauce will feature Brother Thelonious Abbey Ale. Dessert is mocha crème brûlèe with Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout.

North Coast Brewing Company is located in Fort Bragg, CA, on the Pacific Coast highway, about 170 miles northwest of San Francisco. It is one of the top 50 microbreweries in the US.

North Coast sponsors Jazz festivals around the country, including the Monterey Jazz Festival and SF Jazz. Brother Thelonious is a tribute to Thelonious Monk. The Fourth Estate Beer Dinner will kick off the DC-based Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz’s 2013 International Jazz Saxophone competition for young musicians, with $50,000 in prize money. The Institute offers young musicians college level training by Jazz Masters.

Tickets are on Eventbrite with a link on the NPC website. The cost for Club members is $75 for single tickets, $125 per couple; and non-members pay $85/135. Click on this link http://press.org/events/north-coast-dinner-six-micro-brews to purchase tickets.
