Newsweek's Eleanor Clift joins 5K media challenge

Eleanor Clift, a contributing editor for Newsweek magazine and the Daily Beast and a regular panelist on the nationally syndicated show The McLaughlin Group, will compete in the National Press Club’s 14th Annual Beat the Deadline 5K on Saturday, June 11.

Other participating celebrities include Tony Horton, creator of P90X, Suzanne Malveaux, anchor of CNN Newsroom, supermodel Kim Alexis, CNN’s Jill Dougherty, Kelly Wright of Fox News Channel, and Mary Amons of “Real Housewives of DC.”

A Club member since 1984, Clift is a contributor to the Fox News Channel and a board member of the International Women’s Media Foundation. She began her career as a secretary at Newsweek and is one of the first female reporters to earn an internship from the secretary pool.

She began her broadcast career on The Diane Rehm Show on WAMU-FM, the American University NPR station. Clift has also appeared in a number of movies, including Rising Sun (1993), Dave (1993), Independence Day (1996) and Getting Away with Murder (1996).

Media organizations are challenged to form their own team to compete against other media groups. There is a section on the registration form, www.press.org/5K, to create your own team.

Before May 30, the cost to Club members is $25; $40 for non-members.

Proceeds from Beat the Deadline 5K benefit the Eric Friedheim National Journalism Library, which advances journalism education and diversity. For sponsorship opportunities, contact 5K Race Director Melinda Cooke, [email protected]
