National Press Club is looking for the best in 2015 news and feature photos

The National Press Club’s journalism contest will reward the best spot news and feature photography for 2015 in its photo competition.

These photos must be published in news publications such as newspapers, magazines or online media during 2015. Spot news entries should be a news photograph of an unplanned event that is spontaneous and requires the photographer to rely on instincts and photo skills. A feature photo entry should be a general feature photo or a news feature photo that showcases the instincts and skills of the news photographer.

Photos taken for house organs, pamphlets or reports, or advocacy outlets of interest groups such as trade associations, consumer organizations or government agencies will not be considered.

The winner in each category gets a free year’s membership in the National Press Club.

The Press Club, a national leader among journalism organizations, encourages those with excellent breaking news entries to send them in to the contest.

The deadline is April 1. Details on the different awards categories and how to enter the contest can be found by clicking here.

Entrants are encouraged to enter online, but if you prefer, the Club will accept entries mailed in the traditional way as long as they are postmarked before the deadline. No matter how you enter, the most important thing is to make sure you submit your best journalism.

The awards will be presented at an annual awards dinner at the National Press Club this summer.

The contest includes awards for breaking news coverage, political reporting, regional reporting on Washington, international coverage, consumer reporting and online journalism. It also includes a group of awards for areas as diverse as reporting on the welfare of animals, coverage of the journalism industry, newsletter journalism, problems facing the elderly and humor writing.
