Muslimgirl.com founder to speak at Jan. 18 Book Rap

Amani Al-Khatahtbeh, founder and editor of MuslimGirl.com, plans to discuss her book, Muslim Girl: A Coming of Age, at a National Press Club Book Rap on Wednesday, Jan. 18 at 6:30 p.m., in the Club's conference rooms.

Tickets are $5 for Club members and $10 for the public. Go to http://www.press.org/events/npc-book-rap-amani-al-khatahtbeh-author-muslim-girl to buy tickets.

Books can be purchased online at the same time as tickets or at the event. No outside books or memorabilia are permitted.

Proceeds from this event benefit the non-profit affiliate of the Club, its journalism institute, which offers training to journalists and communications professionals.

Set against the current political climate where the president-elect has suggested banning Muslims from entering the United States, creating a Muslim registry and requiring identification cards for Muslims, Al-Khatahtbeh plans to discuss how Islamophobia after 9/11 impacted her as a child and how the blog she founded, MuslimGirl.com, led to columns in Forbes and Vogue Teen and an MTV Snapchat show.

Al-Khatahtbeh also is a frequent speaker at conferences and events addressing issues pertaining to women, Islam, and the Arab world.
