Mexico foreign minister to discuss to discuss Mexico-U.S. relations at Newsmaker, Tuesday

Claudia Ruiz Massieu, appointed Mexico’s Minister of Foreign Affairs in August, will speak at a National Press Club Newsmakers news conferenc, hosted by Club President John Hughes on Tuesday, Dec. 15 at 3 p.m. in the Zenger Room.

Secretary Ruiz Massieu will report on bilateral relations between Mexico and the U.S. and will take questions from the media.

Ruiz Massieu was previously the Minister of Tourism. A former congresswoman, she was a member of the Joint Mexico-European Union Commission, secretary of the Interior Committee and a member of the Budget, Public Accounts and Finance Committees. She served on the Steering Committee of the Congressional Public Finances Research Center and the Mexico-Poland and Mexico-United States Friendship Inter-Parliamentary Groups.

She was also Chief of Staff to the Executive Secretary of the National Public Security System at the Federal Public Security Ministry and was head of the Institutional Planning, Development and Innovation Department at the Office of Mexico's Attorney General.

The Secretary has also worked as a journalist. She was a columnist for Mexico’s El Universal newspaper, and a frequent op-ed contributor to Mexican political magazines, including Confluencia XXI and Examen. She was a political and social analyst on Efecto TV channel and the Frente a Frente.
