Life of political reporter and educator Mike Shanahan to be celebrated Dec. 6

A celebration of the life of Michael Shanahan, a reporter and educator, will be held Saturday, Dec. 6, at George Washington University's Elliott School of International Affairs, 1957 E St. NW.

Shanahan, a Club member, passed away Saturday, days after suffering a stroke. He covered national politics for the Associated Press, McClatchy newspapers and Newhouse News Service, and in his latest years taught at George Washington University alongside current Club President Myron Belkind.

Shanahan joined Belkind at an educators' dinner at the Club earlier this year, and helped judge the Club's online journalism award for many years.
