Learn about reporting grants at Sept. 29 program

Representatives from several journalism grant-making institutions will discuss what funding they have available to finance reporting trips abroad at a Club event on Thursday, Sept. 29 from 6:30-8 p.m. in the conference rooms.

The program is sponsored by the club's International Correspondents and Freelancer committees. Tickets are free for members and $10 for nonmembers and can be purchased at http://www.press.org/events/npc-panel-international-reporting-grants-and-how-win-them

Participants include Nathalie Applewhite, managing director at the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting; Melody Schreiber, program manager at the International Reporting Project; Elisa Tinsley, deputy vice president for programs at the International Center for Journalists; and Rachel Oswald, who has received reporting grants.

The discussion will cover such topics as: the benefits of participating in a group reporting project vs. a solo trip, the increasing prevalance of issue-specific reporting grants, what makes for a successful grant application, advice for solo trips, and what to do when the unexpected happens.
