Leaders of Mercy Corps, Oxfam America, Syrian American Medical Society to address Syrian humanitarian crisis, 10 am March 3

The chief executives of leading responders to the five-year Syrian humanitarian crisis will discuss the situation in Syria at a National Press Club Newsmaker at 10 a.m., March 3, in the Bloomberg Room.

They will address the lack of sustained and safe humanitarian access for relief workers and supplies; the needs of an exponentially growing refugee population; and the necessary steps required to re-orient international aid if a ceasefire holds.

Panelists include:

Neal Keny-Guyer, chief executive, Mercy Corps

Raymond Offenheiser, president, Oxfam America

Dr. Zaher Sahloul, past president and senior advisor, Syrian American Medical Society

Battlefields close to Syria’s civilian population have hampered aid groups. Some United Nations convoys succeed in reaching trapped civilians, but food and medicine are in short supply for millions touched by Syria’s civil war.
