Journalism Institute to offer press freedom fellowship

The National Press Club's Journalism Institute will establish a Press Freedom Fellowship in order to shine a light on barriers to press freedoms abroad and in the United States.

The institute invites individuals with expertise or interest in this field to apply for the fellowship, a one-year, part-time position. A monthly stipend will be provided.

Ideal candidates will have experience both as a journalist and a manager and will:

-- Monitor press freedom issues, and, as necessary, write press releases and blog posts

-- Advise the Club president and the Institute board on the need for possible intervention

-- Serve as liaison with other press freedom groups and advise on how to best coordinate efforts and avoid duplication

-- Assist the journalism institute's executive director in planning up to four major events per year around press freedom.

The position will vary in hours per week but is expected to average 10 to 20. Hours are flexible and to be determined according to events and need by the fellow in coordination with the institute's executive director. Interested applicants should send a letter and resume to Julie Schoo at [email protected]. Deadline is Jan. 10.
