Norris is the executive director of the Sustainable Security and Peacebuilding Initiative at the Center for American Progress. In 2014, he was appointed by President Barack Obama to the President’s Global Development Council, a body charged with advising the administration on effective-development practices.

He is also the author of "Disaster Gypsies," a memoir of his work in the field of emergency relief. He has published commentaries in the Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, Wall Street Journal and elsewhere. He holds a graduate degree in public administration.

Mary McGrory is an American journalist who reported and opined on American politics for five decades. She was a nationally-syndicated columnist and the first woman to win the Pulitzer Prize for Commentary.
