Giovanna Dell'Orto, a former AP newswoman and current associate professor of journalism at the University of Minnesota, has written a new book, "AP Foreign Correspondents in Action", that delves into what it takes to report and publish some of the world's most important stories, particularly during times of shifting international relations and increasing hurdles, both physical and financial, to covering such critical topics as conflict and disaster. In her research for this book, Dell'Orto interviewed 61 correspondents with experience covering everything from World War II, to the Syrian civil war, to the 2011 earthquake, tsunami, and nuclear reactor meltdown in Japan.

Joining Dell'Orto on the panel to discuss today's international wire reporting environment, the practices and ideals of foreign correspondents, and the impact on journalism of U.S. foreign policy are:

Matthew Pennington - AP reporter covering Asia-related foreign policy

Jordan Tama - assistant professor of international relations at American University's School of International Service

Myron Belkind - journalism instructor at George Washington University and retired longtime AP foreign correspondent (moderator)
