Hungarian Embassy Concert, Buffet Dinner, Jan. 26, 27; $60

National Press Club members can receive a $15 discount off the cost of an all-Liszt concert and buffet/wine reception at the Embassy of Hungary at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26, or at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 27.

The price for Club members and their guests is $60. Please purchase tickets as early as possible to guarantee a seat by phoning 202-625-2361.

Club members have their choice of Jan. 26 or Jan. 27 because the Club will host a major Haiti fundraiser on Jan. 26. Club member Jerome Barry, the artistic director and founder of the Embassy Series, extended the Hungarian Embassy concert discount to include Jan. 27 so that Club members can attend both the Haiti and Hungarian events.

The concert, part of the Embassy Series, commemorates Hungary's ascension to the presidency of the European Union for six months and the 200th birthday year of composer Ferenc Liszt.

The evenings will feature:

  • An all-Liszt concert by Adam György, winner of the 2002 Vienna Classics Prize. In 2003 he won the special prize at the San Remo International Piano Competition, and in 2004 he won all prizes (first prize, grand prize and special prize) at the First International Chopin Piano Competition in Budapest.

  • A full Hungarian buffet dinner reception accompanied by Hungarian wines. The discount was arranged for Club members and guests through Club members Barry and Alison Adler, an Embassy Series board member.

The embassy is at 2950 Spring of Freedom St., NW (off Tilden Street). Street parking is available.
