How to find 'dark' political money? Panel to offer tips, April 12

OK, so you've mastered the Federal Election Commission's website. But what about the "dark" political money that can't be found there?

You can find out a lot about that at a program in the National Press Club’s Bloomberg Room from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 12.

Attendance is open to the public for $10, or $5 for National Press Club members. RSVP by clicking here.

A panel of experts will tell you how to find what you're not supposed to be able to see. You’ll learn what to look for, where to look and how to turn darkness into stories that will help readers/viewers/listeners understand who is trying to influence their votes and why.

Panelists are:

• Marc Owens, former director of the IRS division that regulated non-profit organizations, and currently a partner in the Washington office of Loeb & Loeb, LLP, where he advises tax-exempt organizations
• Carrie Levine, a reporter from the Center for Public Integrity
• Luke Rosiak, data reporter and founder of CitizenAudit.org
• Robert Maguire, political nonprofits investigator with Center for Responsive Politics

The program is sponsored by the National Press Club Journalism Institute and the Club's Professional Development Committee.
