House Armed Services Committee chairman to speak at Wednesday, Jan. 13 luncheon

House Armed Services Committee Chairman Mac Thornberry (R-Texas) will speak at a National Press Club luncheon on Wednesday, Jan. 13.

Thornberry will discuss national security issues, President Barack Obama's State of the Union address and his agenda for military overhaul in the year ahead. Thornberry champions military acquisition and personnel overhaul efforts and is looking at ways to overhaul how the Pentagon buys its weapons systems, involving defense contractors in the effort.

Thornberry succeeded in January 2015 Rep. Buck McKeon of California, who retired. Thornberry was first elected in the Republican landslide of 1994 that ended 40 years of Democratic control of the House.

The luncheon will begin promptly at 12:30 p.m. Remarks will begin at 1 p.m., followed by a question-and-answer session ending at 2 p.m. Tickets may be purchased by clicking here.

The cost of luncheon admission is $24 for Club members and $38 for non-members. Tickets must be purchased at time of reservation.
