The Freelance Workshop returns June 10

The Freelance Committee will reprise its annual workshop event on June 10 in the conference rooms. The two-part presentation will focus on writing for trade publications and monetizing social media efforts. The first panel will start at 1 p.m., followed by a second panel at 3 p.m. The event ends at 4:30 p.m.

Tam Harbert, independent journalist and former chair of the Freelance Committee, will moderate the first panel. She will be joined on the panel by the experts listed below. The event is free for club members and $10 for non-members.

Randy Lilleston - Industry Dive
Randy has been editor-in-chief of Industry Dive, a Washington-based all-digital business-to-business news startup, for the past two years. He has more than 20 years of experience in digital news, and has held senior-level editing positions at NPR, USA TODAY, CNN and Congressional Quarterly. Before moving to the digital platform, Randy spent 15 years as a newspaper reporter and editor in the South and Midwest. John Scorza, associate editor, joined HR Magazine in 2010. Before coming to SHRM, he was an editor at the Thompson Publishing Group, where he wrote and edited articles on employee benefits issues. For several years, he was with CCH in Washington, D.C., where he covered Congress, the Supreme Court and federal agencies, reporting on a broad range of business and workplace issues. Before that, he was the deputy legal editor at The National Law Journal in New York City. Cassidy is senior writer editor at Winrock International, a nonprofit development firm with projects around the world. Before joining Winrock in April, she was acting executive director of communications at Georgetown University Law Center, where she edited Georgetown Law magazine for 10 years. Previously she was a full-time freelance writer with essays and articles published in The New York Times, The Washington Post, Travel & Leisure, Family Circle, Ladies Home Journal and many other newspapers and magazines.
