Freelance Committee to offer panel on ghostwriting Nov. 12

The National Press Club Freelance Committee plans to present a panel on ghostwriting Nov. 12 from 7 to 9 p.m.in the Bloomberg Room. Panelists are slated to discuss opportunities for writing books, speeches, op-eds and other works for others, as well as their own experiences in the field.

The scheduled panelists include:


  • Dan Gerstein spent 10 years as a speechwriter and communications strategist in the U.S. Senate and for two presidential campaigns before becoming a political consultant and commentator based in New York City. He founded and runs Gotham Ghostwriters, whose clients include chief executive officers of Fortune 100 companies

  • Charlotte Reather is a humorous columnist and journalist for the British country lifestyle. She has been featured in The Washington Post, a column called “American Wildlife” in Virginia Sportsman has written comedy for television. She ghost-wrote British actor Robson Green's Extreme Fishing memoir to accompany his hit TV show of the same title. The memoir was number one on the Sunday Times Bestseller List for nonfiction hardbacks in 2013 and is now available in paperback in Britain, Australia and many other countries.

  • David Levey worked as a columnist for Crain's and more recently in federal government. In 2006, he began writing speeches for the undersecretary for international trade and later for the Commerce Secretary and the staff of the Drug Enforcement Agency. He is an active member of the Washington Speechwriters Roundtable.



The panel will be moderated by Freelance Committee Vice Chair Brooke C. Stoddard, a career freelancer who has written op-eds, speeches, and position papers for a variety of clients in Washington, D. C. A question and answer period will follow the presentation.
