FDA commissioner to speak at NPC luncheon on March 27

Dr. Margaret Hamburg, the outgoing commissioner of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, will speak at a National Press Club Newsmaker Luncheon on March 27.

Dr. Hamburg, the FDA commissioner since May 2009, announced her retirement from the agency on Feb. 5. She will step down in late March. Dr. Stephen Ostroff, recently FDA chief scientist, will be the Acting Commissioner until Dr. Hamburg's successor is named.

The Food and Drug Administration is charged with protecting the public health by making sure that the nation's food, drugs, biological products and medical devises are safe.

Lunch will be served at 12:30 p.m., with remarks beginning at 1 p.m., followed by a question-and-answer session ending at 2 p.m. Tickets are $23 for National Press Club members and one guest and $37 for general admission, and are available HERE. ​
