Family member of imprisoned Americans in UAE to call for release, discuss details of upcoming trial at March 14 Newsmaker

Amal Eldarat, the daughter and sister of American citizens imprisoned in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for more than 550 days, will speak at a National Press Club Newsmaker news conference, Monday, March 14, at 10 a.m. in the club’s Bloomberg Room.

Eldarat will provide an update on her family’s case and urge the UAE to immediately release her family members. The news conference comes exactly one week before Kamal and Mohamed Eldarat are scheduled to return to court to face trial on what Eldarat says are fabricated charges.

Joining Eldarat:

Greg Craig, former White House counsel under President Barack Obama and current counsel for the Eldarat family;

Brian Dooley, director of Human Rights Defenders at Human Rights First, a non-profit, non-partisan international human rights advocacy organization.

Kamal Eldarat and his son, Mohamed Eldarat, are fighting for their lives in a case family members and their lawyers say is founded on fictional charges that are clear violations of UAE and international law. Independent human rights organizations have reported that the Eldarats have been psychologically and physically tortured while being held and have been denied access to their families and legal counsel.
