Experts to explore energy development in Gulf of Mexico, 10 am Aug. 3

A panel of experts will discuss the current offshore drilling policy in the Gulf of Mexico at a National Press Club Newsmakers press conference at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 3, in the Zenger Room.

Panel participants include Michael Bromwich, consultant and former director of the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement, U.S. Department of the Interior; Jennifer Dlouhy, Washington correspondent, Houston Chronicle; Dr. Bernard Weinstein, associate director, Maguire Energy Institute, Southern Methodist University and author of “The Outlook for Energy Production in the Gulf of Mexico: How the Regulatory Risk Premium is Restraining Production”, and Steve Levine, author, "The Oil and the Glory" and a Schwartz Fellow, New America Foundation.

The mandate for ever broader oversight of offshore energy activity in the wake of the April 2010 Macondo spill in the Gulf of Mexico has posed challenges for government and industry alike, often testing the capacity of regulators on the ground while creating less predictability for operators seeking insight into the status of future plans.

These experts will give a status check on Gulf energy activity today, and consider prospects over the coming years.
