Digital: Cutting Edge Ventures in Multimedia Journalism - Wednesday, Sept. 16

The National Pres Club's Freelance and Professional Development committees are hosting “Digital: Cutting Edge Ventures in Multimedia Journalism,” Wednesday, Sept. 16 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Conference Rooms.

This panel will bring together representatives from three major media outlets -- Reuters, McClatchy and Al Jazeera -- that are building the latest in multimedia.

One of the panelists, Dan Colarusso, is the Executive Editor, Digital at Reuters, and is responsible for the direction of its consumer platforms including Reuters TV and Reuters.com.

Reuters TV is the world’s first mobile TV news service and Dan helped conceive the product as an always on-demand, always up-to-date news show. He is responsible for all Reuters TV content and managed editorial teams in the Americas, Europe and Asia. On Reuters.com and its related sites around the world, he is responsible for the overall direction of editorial, social strategy and commentary.

Before joining Reuters, he was the U.S. managing editor of Bloomberg TV, managing editor of Conde Nast’s Portfolio.com and worked as business editor and metro editor of the New York Post. His freelance work has appeared in The New York Times, Barron’s, Institutional Investor and The Daily Beast.

Dan has a B.A. in Journalism from Long Island University’s Brooklyn Campus.

“We work hand-in-hand with 1,700 journalists all over the country to produce and share compelling video,” the company explains. “We’re just as interested in reaching viewers in their Facebook feed as we are reaching them on our existing websites. (More here: http://mcclatchyvideo.com/the-plan/)

Prior to McClatchy, Forsythe worked at The Washington Post for 14 years, most recently as the Deputy Video Editor, where he managed the staff and the video production workflow. He counts the two Emmy awards that he won as executive producer of the documentary series 'First and 17' and the documentary 'Two years, two titles and the peak of a rivalry' among his greatest professional achievements.

A graduate of the University of Maryland’s Philip Merrill College of Journalism, he is a long-suffering Terps fan. Jon is married to his high school sweetheart and is the proud father of two rugrat sons who have totally wrecked his golf game. He is also a certified Irish whiskey taster and his favorite Seinfeld episode is ‘The Marine Biologist’.
