Communicators Summit Scheduled for Oct. 18

Journalists and communicators will get together Friday, Oct. 18 for the NPC Communicators Summit to discuss how they are using social media to do their jobs.

The Communications and Marketing Committee is sponsoring the summit, which is set to take place in the Zenger Room starting with a networking breakfast at 8 a.m. Admission is $30 for NPC members and $50 for non-members.

NPC President Angela Greiling Keane of Bloomberg News will deliver welcoming remarks at 8:30 a.m., followed by a panel of journalists describing how they are using social media to nurture source relationships and develop story ideas. Danielle Ivory of Bloomberg News, Jack Speer of National Public Radio and Hayley Tsukayama of the Washington Post are scheduled to be on the panel that Danny Selnick of BusinessWire will moderate.

At 10:30 a.m., a second panel comprised of communicators will review best practices for amplifying media strategies online, including how to use social media to contact reporters and complement traditional media relations methods. They also will discuss how to know when advertising on social media pays off. The panelists will be Kristin Brown of Racepoint Group, Jenna Golden of Twitter, Tammy Gordon of AARP and Communications and Marketing Committee Chair Tom McMahon of Motorola Solutions. The summit's organizer, Lindsay Murphy of Racepoint Group, will serve as the moderator.
