CNN's Peter Bergen introduces new book on homegrown terrorists, 6:30 p.m., April 1

CNN security analyst and New America Vice President Peter Bergen plans to discuss his new book," United States of Jihad: Investigating America's Homegrown Terrorists," at a National Press Club Book Rap at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, April 1.

Tickets are $5 for Club members; $10 public. This event is a fundraiser for the nonprofit NPC Journalism Institute. Tickets can be purchased online by clicking here. Books can be purchased online at the same time as tickets or at the event. No outside books or memorabilia are permitted.

In his previous books, including "Manhunt, Holy War, Inc.," and "The Longest War," Bergen explored terrorism in the Middle East and other countries.

In "United States of Jihad: Investigating America's Homegrown Terrorists," as the title indicates, Bergen explores terrorists who were born and raised in the U.S. The book looks at what motivates terrorists, how they are trained and the difficult task of tracking the terrorists to stop their attacks without destroying civil liberties.

Bergen looks at some of the individuals who either went overseas to join organizations like ISIS and Al-Qaeda and those who have operated in the United States. He also writes about overreaction to the threat, writing that jihadists have only killed 45 people in the United States since 9/11.
