Club's Rowse Award to honor best work in critical coverage of the news industry

The National Press Club wants to see the best coverage of the news industry and journalistic practices from the last year.

The Arthur Rowse Award for Press Criticism, named for the former reporter for U.S. News and World Report and award sponsor, rewards the best critical look at the news industry, its practice and its ethics.

This competition is important at a time when the news business is going through dramatic changes both in technology and the business model. Last year’s winner was Michael Calderone of The Huffington Post, who looked carefully at media issues involving foreign affairs from Afghanistan to Iraq to Benghazi in Libya.

The award, which is part of the NPC Journalism Contest, includes a print and a broadcast category. The prize is $750 for each category.

The deadline for entering the NPC Journalism Contest is April 1, so pick your entries and enter them online or mail them soon! For information about the contest, click here.

The contest includes awards for breaking news, news and feature photo, political reporting, regional reporting on Washington, international coverage, consumer reporting, online journalism and newsletter journalism. It also includes a group of awards for areas as diverse as the aviation industry, problems facing the elderly and humor writing.
