Club joins call for Supreme Court to broadcast health care argument

The National Press Club joined with numerous other media groups in asking U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts Jr. to allow audio and video recordings of oral arguments in three health care law cases.

``The American public's access to affordable health care is among the most significant issues to inform public debate in this country and to come before its highest Court in many years,'' states the letter to Roberts.

The letter follows a similar request made by C-SPAN Chairman and CEO Brian Lamb. The Court's current policy of releasing audio-only recordings at the end of the week ``will not adequately satisfy this strong public interest in being timely informed'' of developments.

Among others signing the letter were the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press, ABC News, The Associated Press, Bloomberg News, CNN, CBS, Chicago Tribune, Dow Jones, Gannett, The New York Times, NPR, Reuters and the Washington Post.
