Club to hold legal workshop Sept. 20 for bloggers and freelancers

The National Press Club Journalism Institute and the Media Law Resource Center Institute will present a one-day workshop on Tuesday, Sept. 20, aimed at freelancers, bloggers and other independent journalists working without the benefit of a legal department.

Media lawyers will address libel, privacy, newsgathering and the Freedom of Information Act, copyright and digital law, how to protect oneself from lawsuits, and other issues. The session will conclude with a journalists' roundtable including former Club President Donna Leinwand Leger, managing editor for breaking news at USA Today.

The program will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $20 and includes a light breakfast and lunch.
