Experts to discuss campaign money avalanche in 2012 and how to follow it in future

Never in the history of political campaigning has money played as big a role as it did in the 2012 election. And more of the same seems in store for the future.

A panel of experts will take a look back at fundraising in this year's campaigning and offer advice on how journalists can cover the avalanche of money in the future at a National Press Club event on Tuesday, Dec. 4.

Sponsored by the Club's Journalism Institute and the Professional Development Committee, the session is scheduled from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the Bloomberg Room.

Space is limited. This event is free, but registration is required. To reserve space, see www.press.org/events/money.

Panelists will be:

Trevor Potter, former Federal Election Commission chairman, president of the Campaign Legal Center and counsel for Stephen Colbert's Americans for a Better Tomorrow, Tomorrow super-political action committee.

Fred Wertheimer, president of Democracy 21 and a long-time advocate of overhauling campaign finance laws.

Sheila Krumholz, executive director of the Center for Responsive Politics.

Jonathan Salant, money and politics reporter for Bloomberg News and a former National Press Club president.

The session will be moderated by club member Herb Jackson, Washington correspondent for the Bergen Record.
