Clear your calendar: It's time for the book fair, Nov. 17

The National Press Club in partnership with Washington’s largest independent bookstore, Politics & Prose, will host its 38th annual Book Fair & Authors’ Night on Tuesday, Nov. 17 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

One of the capital’s premier literary events, the annual fair draws the nation’s top politicians, pundits and cultural icons to the historic National Press Club. The event promises a robust crowd of booklovers, journalists and politicos seeking the latest titles across the genres -- from cookbooks and children’s stories to history, sports, memoirs and mysteries -- and a chance to mingle with more than 90 of the nation’s best authors.

For the biography lovers are on your holiday shopping list, be sure to meet Rep. John Lewis, D-Ga., who will be there with “March: Book Two,” a first-hand account of his experiences as a Freedom Rider and his participation in the 1963 March on Washington, co-authored with Andrew Aydin. Former supermodel Beverly Johnson will be there with her book, “The Face That Changed It All: A Memoir,” and Cindy Williams, half the comedic duo of Laverne & Shirley, will attend to showcase her book, “Shirley, I Jest!: A Storied Life.” John Sununu, former chief of staff to George H.W. Bush offers a new point of view on the 41st Presidents term in office with “The Quiet Man: The Indispensable Presidency of George H.W. Bush.”

For a tax deductible contribution of $25, you can become a “Friend of the Book Fair.” You will be recognized in the program and on our website, and receive a free ticket to the event, a fundraiser for The National Press Club’s Journalism Institute, a 501(c)(3) that provides training, research and resources for news professionals and scholarships for the next generation of journalists.
