Charleston shootings: AME Church senior bishop to address NPC luncheon on Aug. 12

The Right Rev. John Richard Bryant, senior bishop of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, will discuss the Charleston, S.C., church shootings at a National Press Club luncheon on Wednesday, Aug. 12.

At a prayer vigil after the shootings, Bryant invoked the African-American legacy of resilience, saying the shooting suspect, Dylann Roof, had "picked the wrong place and the wrong crowd." He then railed against gun violence in American society.

In addition to serving as senior bishop, Bryant is the presiding prelate of the AME church’s Fourth Episcopal District.

Lunch will be served at 12:30 p.m., with remarks beginning at 1 p.m., followed by a question-and-answer session ending at 2 p.m.

Tickets cost $23 for Club members (members may purchase 2 tickets at this rate) and $37 for all other non-member tickets. Tickets may be purchased online by going to the following link.
