Capital Pride kicks off at National Press Club, 7 pm June 1

Capital Pride 2011 will kick off with a panel discussion and celebration at The National Press Club at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 1.

The event will begin with “Out on Assignment: How LGBT Journalists Influence the Media Landscape,” a panel discussion hosted by the National Lesbian & Gay Journalists Association.

LGBT journalists from a variety of media outlets will make remarks and answer questions from the audience. Following the panel discussion, members of the community will be invited to celebrate the kick-off of Capital Pride at a networking reception hosted by the Club.

A cash bar will be available. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and the event is expected to conclude at 9 p.m.

LGBT journalists and communicators, members of the Press Club and NLGJA, Capital Pride partners and community supporters are all welcome to join this engaging discussion and to celebrate Capital Pride. Registration is free of charge and available online:

Capital Pride is the annual celebration of the LGBT community in Washington. Traditionally held the first full week of June, the Capital Pride program serves residents and visitors to the Washington area.

Capital Pride presents a diverse programming line-up each year to celebrate the heritage and lives of the LGBT community and its allies. It is produced by the Capital Pride Alliance, Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

The National Lesbian & Gay Journalists Association (NLGJA) is an organization of journalists, media professionals, educators and students working from within the news industry to foster fair and accurate coverage of LGBT issues. NLGJA opposes all forms of workplace bias and provides professional development to its members.
