Boeing engineers speak about potential strike at National Press Club Newsmaker

Leaders of the Boeing Co. engineers and technicians union plan to address a National Press Club Newsmakers press conference on Friday Feb. 22 at 10 a.m.

Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace Executive Director Ray Goforth, and Secretary-Treasurer of the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers Paul Shearon are Boeing employees who serve on union negotiating teams.

Boeing, which has been in the news in recent weeks for battery-related fires in its Dreamliner airplane fleet, has about 26,000 engineers and technicians who have been in labor talks for more than a year. Boeing's test pilots recently began contract negotiations too.

The Dreamliner fleet remains grounded as an investigation continues to be led by the Federal Aviation Administration. A strike by Boeing engineers, as happened for 40 days in 2000, could delay a fix longer.

NPC Newsmaker events are open to Club members and the working press.
