Armstrong outlined top 20th Century engineering achievements at 2000 Club luncheon

Neil Armstong, the first man to walk on the moon, outlined the top engineering achievements in the 20th Century at a National Press Club luncheon on Feb. 22, 2000, nearly 31 years after his historic lunar moment.

His speech, entitled "The Engineered Century," analyzed the National Academy of Engineering's top 20 choices. Topping the list were electronics, water purification, the airplane, the automobile and electrification.

Armstrong died at 82 on Aug. 25.
