All-star panel discussion on Islam, Pakistan and faith-based diplomacy, 6 pm June 23

Washington Post journalist Sally Quinn will moderate a panel discussion at The National Press Club at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 23, on the role of faith-based diplomacy and the use of religion to resolve conflicts, including those involving Islamic extremists in Pakistan.

The event, sponsored by the Club's International Correspondents Committee, coincides with the publication of the book, Religion, Terror and Error: U.S. Foreign Policy and the Challenge of Spiritual Engagement, by Douglas M. Johnston, president of the International Center for Religion & Diplomacy (ICRD).

Reservations for the event can be made online by clicking here.

Quinn, who writes the On Faith blog for the Post, will interview Johnston and moderate a panel that includes former Attorney General Ed Meese; former Undersecretary of State for Public Diplomacy James K. Glassman and the Rev. David McAllister-Wilson, president of Wesley Seminary.

Johnston's book focuses on the importance of incorporating religious considerations into U.S foreign policy.

A video clip showing the ICRD's efforts in Pakistan to counter extremism and reform madrasas, or religious schools, will be shown for the first time.

The event, held in the Holeman Lounge, will start with a welcome reception from 6 to 6:30 p.m. A cash bar will be available. Copies of Johnston's book will be available for purchase.
